An Electrical Discharge Machine (EDM) is a precision machining tool used to shape hard metals and complex geometries that are difficult to machine with traditional methods. EDM works by creating controlled electrical sparks between an electrode and the workpiece, which erode material without physical contact. It is especially useful for producing dies, molds, and intricate parts in aerospace, automotive, and tool-making industries. There are two main types: wire EDM and die-sinking EDM. This non-contact process minimizes mechanical stress, allowing high-precision work on heat-treated or delicate materials.
